Wellfleet Oysterfest
Oct 13, 2009
This weekend one of the great events on the oyster calendar goes down in Wellfleet, the world’s most charming oyster town. Wellfleet Oysterfest, way out on the ulnar of Cape Cod, runs all day Saturday and Sunday, October 17-18, and features more Wellfleet oysters and quahogs than you could possibly eat, both raw and cleverly concocted by a variety of local chefs. The weekend includes tours of the famed tideflats, as well as a newly restored oyster reef, shucking contests, a “Taste the Terroir” seminar with oysters from three different parts of Wellfleet Harbor (talk about microclimates!), and a demonstration by Wellfleet’s own Chopper Young, world’s fastest oyster shucker. I’ll be on hand, giving a presentation based on my new book, The Living Shore, and otherwise generally carousing. Hope to see you there!
