Evergreen Shellfish Club
Nov 28, 2016
What do vaginas, oysters, and climate change have in common? You’ll find out in this video about the Evergreen Shellfish Club at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. As far as I know, it’s the only college shellfish club in the country, and it’s been cranking out some very bivalve-savvy graduates for a few years now. The club has a stunning spot on famous Eld Inlet where it grows its own oysters. I got to visit the club this year, sing the geoduck fight song, and partake of a sensational foraged lunch, including some absolutely massive Pacific oysters. If you’re ever near Olympia, look them up. And if you know of any budding shellfish aquaculturalists, send them to the club. They’re easy to contact through their Facebook page.
